Maarten Vink gives public lecture in Malmö City Library

In the lecture, Vink discussed the controversial and complex relation between the naturalisation of immigrants and their integration within the host society. This relation is controversial as some politicians view citizenship as a reward for being a well-integrated immigrant, whereas others see it as an incentive to reach this goal. Also from a scientific point of view this relation is complex; it is often unclear whether citizenship leads to better integration of immigrants or, vice versa, whether immigrants who are abetter integrated are just more likely to naturalize.

Maarten Vink is currently spending several months in Malmö, where he has been appointed as Willy Brandt Guest Professor at the Malmö Institute for Studies of Migration, Diversity and Welfare (MIM) at Malmö University.
